Ready to Ride?
It's Halloween and you know what that means -
WITCHES ride!
At 11 I played the Witch in Snow White in a summer school production. I was tall with dark hair and must have had a bit of an imposing edge for me to be cast in the part.
Playing that role set me apart. The rest of the cast seemed a little afraid of me.
Whether you dress up as a Witch or choose to honor your Inner Witch, today is a special day.
You see, I think that claiming your Inner Witch is an act of power.
The archetype of Witch is the shadow side of what is expected of women in our culture - gnarly, evil, and powerful. Just the opposite of what we assume we should be - pretty, pleasant, and attentive to the needs of others.
What if a woman's power is not evil?
What freedom is there in being potent?
If powerful women were acknowledged and accepted, witches would have little hold on the collective imagination.
Instead, they are the icon of Halloween, betraying our unconscious fear of the power, intuition, and knowing of the feminine.
What would happen if you embraced your inner power - your Inner Witch?
Who would you bother?
What power would you wield?
Would you use your knowing for good or ill?
Who would insist on calling you names?
It's worth a think about these questions on the day that witches ride.
Hiding your power under the Good Girl guise diminishes you and what you can do, experience, and offer in your life.
If you were to tap into your Inner Witch Power today, what would you know, do, and be?
That's a costume worth trying on!
